Success story

Here’s how I helped Motel One inform and inspire their English-speaking guests and design lovers:

Issue

Motel One publishes its One Design magazine twice a year. The content ranges from featured European cities and travel tips to striking design pieces and art installations that adorn each of the hotel brand’s individual locations. Motel One works with the Munich-based content agency Storyboard GmbH to make this magazine come to life. In this content creation process, I was in charge of translating the full magazine content from German to English to make it appeal to international hotel visitors across Europe.

Process

The Storyboard copywriters and designers and I were working within tight time frames, which are common in the world of editorial print. Thanks to setting our project milestones months ahead of time, I was able to clear my schedule and focus on this project for the 1.5 weeks we had agreed on. In addition to time constraints, I handled some formatting work to make sure that my translations would fit nicely within the magazine’s layout. By regularly communicating with the content agency, I was able to ask any translation-related questions and implement their feedback along the way.

Outcome

With my passion for interior design and my marketing translation skills, I was able to hit the brief and deliver the project on time. Seeing the magazine in real life at a Motel One hotel location in Leipzig was an exciting moment in my journey as a small translation business owner. I appreciated Storyboard’s responsiveness as well as my live calls with Motel One’s marketing manager leading up to and after finalising the project. Motel One guests all across Europe were able to browse our One Design issue. One copy even made it onto my office wall!

Feedback

“We were very happy about how our collaboration with Belinda went. She added the necessary creative touch and charm to the English version of our magazine.”
